We are excited to announce that Matt Cerar has accepted the job as Music Director at Oak Knoll. He will officially begin on June 1, 2023. Matt has been our choir pianist and worship musician for 10 years – and has been interim music director twice! We are so pleased to officially welcome him as Music Director.
Matt Cerar has been playing at Oak Knoll ever since he filled in as the keyboardist for a Gospel Sing weekend in the Spring of 2013. Since then, he has spent the last 10 years as the choir accompanist and worship pianist. His background in worship accompaniment started when he was 13 by playing for the Catholic church his family attended in Moorhead, MN. Matt played there until graduating from Concordia College in Moorhead in 2011. He has resided in the Twin Cities for the last 12 years.
Outside of music, Matt works as an Account Strategist at Adventure Creative, an advertising agency in Minneapolis. He lives in Northeast Minneapolis with his English cream golden retriever, June.
The Music Director hiring process included meetings and interviews involving Pastor Jay, Pastor Michele, members of the Worship Planning Team, the prior Search Committee, and the Church Council. Matt’s hiring was enthusiastically approved by the Executive Team and Church Council at May’s meeting. As Music Director, Matt will be with us for 40 out of the 52 Sundays of the year while we schedule regular substitutes for the Sundays that he is gone.
Due to some prior plans, Matt will only be in worship sporadically until mid-July, though he is already working hard behind the scenes on our summer music and planning fall music programming!
Please join us in welcoming Matt!
