In October, we welcomed fall by studying apples, making apple prints, observing the leaves changing color and conducting pumpkin science experiments. The children celebrated Halloween with classroom pumpkin parties and by carving pumpkins. They also enjoyed dressing up in costumes, and trick or treating around the church.
In October our program closed for staff the attend the ELEA (Evangelical Lutheran Education Association) educators conference. This is an opportunity for our program to network with other early childhood professionals while completing our required in-service learning. Some of the topics we trained in included understanding temperament in young children, supporting social/ emotional skills through play and interactions and early literacy skills for toddlers and preschoolers.
In other exciting news, we have been working with a non-profit organization called GPS Education Partners to hire a student intern as a classroom aide. This organization pairs junior and senior high school students with local businesses for an internship in a field that the student is interested in exploring. Gabriella Burns, a senior at Armstrong High School, joined our team of teachers in October. We are excited to have her be part of our program.
Lastly, our older classrooms are full for preschool, however we do have a few remaining spots open in our young 2/3-year-old classroom. If you know of any families or see any social media posts where families are looking for preschool or child care options for their little one, please share our program with them. Many of our families have joined our program because of a recommendation from a current or previous family. We appreciate all the support from our church and preschool community.
