We kicked off summer last month with our fun summer enrichment activities. We welcomed the Como Zoo to our program and they led a special presentation on animal movements. We read a special story, played an interactive game where we focused on moving like the different animals we were learning about and we were able to explore the animal artifacts that were in the presentation.
In June, we also started music with Ms. Michaela. In music, we are learning about several different genres of music, exploring musical concepts such as tempo and rhythm while singing and playing musical instruments. In addition to our summer enrichment classes, our older child care friends are continuing to partner up with The Gathering group twice a month to share stories, music and special activities.
Summer also brings fun themes to explore. We are busy learning about sea life, animals, and camping. We also enjoyed spending extra time outside riding our bikes and learning how to play t-ball in the field. When the weather has been too rainy or the air quality has been poor, we have moved our play indoors and have enjoyed our traverse climbing wall. Our traverse climbing wall was installed in early May and is already a hit attraction in our large motor room.

In July we will continue with music. We will welcome Science Explorers to our program to lead a presentation on dinosaurs and fossils with our students. At the end of the month, we will host a soccer camp with Soccer Shots, where the children will learn basic soccer skills. Throughout the month, we are looking forward to having water days at school where we can set up the water tables and sprinklers.
Looking ahead, we still have open preschool and child care spots for the fall in all of our classrooms, with different scheduling options available. If you are interested in learning about our program, please reach out to Kathryn Glorvick at preschool@oklutheran.org.
