New Dove Banner in the Oak Knoll Chapel

Oak Knoll has graciously received a beautiful banner of a dove that now hangs in the chapel. This gift was given by Jan Mostrom, who wove the banner herself in 2008. She crafted the banner using Norwegian weaving yarn made of wool and hung it with linen. If you look closely, you can see that there are little crosses woven into the tapestry, inspired by a Norwegian technique called “krokbragd.” The many colors she used represent the entire liturgical calendar.

The banner was originally woven as a gift to Peace Lutheran Church in Plymouth. There it hung in the narthex and matched the stained-glass window in Peace that also displayed a dove. The Mostroms, along with multiple other families, joined Oak Knoll following the closure of Peace Lutheran Church in 2024. Jan says that it’s a joy to have found a new home for the banner at Oak Knoll.

Oak Knoll is grateful for this generous contribution and remembrance of Peace Lutheran Church for our community members that called it home.
