The Gathering by Avinity is a twice a month meeting time for people with early to mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease. The purpose is to give the participants five hours of learning and fun while allowing their caregivers some free time. It is a place where friendships are made, and kindness is shown to all.
We just completed our 14th year of The Gathering at Oak Knoll! We added four new volunteers, all of whom are members of Oak Knoll. We currently have eight participants with the prospect of two more expecting to join us sometime this year.
Our program remains the same; a weekly theme, learning about the theme, music, exercise, poem of the day, joke of the day, and of course, food!
We are so appreciative of the treats you always provide us with on the first and third Thursdays. Many thanks to the office staff who make our days run much more smoothly. Also, a heartfelt thank you to those who give to the Mission of the Month for the Gathering.
You may donate to The Gathering by giving to the Oak Knoll Mission of the Month in June, or by giving online at oklutheran.org/give. You may also sign up to provide treats for The Gathering at the welcome desk. Oak Knoll members are also invited to participate in the program if they meet the requirements.
Please contact Diane Sweeney at twosweeneys@gmail.com if you are interested in participating or volunteering with The Gathering, or to find out more information!
