Council Update

Greetings to fellow Oak Knoll members and friends,

It’s a new year and that brings changes to the church council members! I am looking forward to being the Council President in 2024. My husband Peter and I have been OKLC members since 2008. We have four children who have been active parts of the preschool, Sunday school, confirmation and high school youth groups over the years, and our oldest is a senior this year! Oh, how time flies. We have found OKLC a very welcoming place for community and worship and consider it like a second home that is walking distance from our real home! I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve with our Executive Committee (Marget Schmidtke - Vice President, Ben Larson - Treasurer, Lori Gardner - Secretary), the Congregation Council, and our Pastors in 2024!

The new Executive Committee and new Council met on February 20th. We reviewed the recent OK Annual Meeting, reviewed January financials, and introduced ourselves including new members Marget Schmidtke, Ben Larson and Emily Heyne.

We discussed three bids for lighting updates in the sanctuary and will continue to look at questions concerning overall appearance and size before moving forward. We discussed the roof over the Sunday school area as this is the next part of our roof that will need attention in the coming year. We also approved a new sunshade for the preschool that the preschool is funding.

Also discussed was the proposal at our annual meeting about youth attending council meetings. We would love to welcome a youth to come and speak to us about interests, ideas, or sharing updates and will look forward to this opportunity in the future. Other priorities for ’24 include continuing to foster and enrich our congregation, meet the needs of both in-person and virtual participants, and continue to be a gathering place and valued partner within our community.

Finally, thank you to the staff of Oak Knoll for their support that makes OKLC a great place for worship and fellowship! Enjoy this “Spring” that we are currently experiencing!

Blessings,

Erika Vickerman
