In a continuing effort to keep the congregation informed on the issue of affordable housing, the Oak Knoll Beacon Housing Committee likes to share relevant housing articles, information and events.
This Is a Defining Moment for Supportive Housing
Supportive housing is more than just a home. It combines affordable housing with on-site services to help individuals and families stay housed and work toward long-term stability.
Supportive Housing is built off the values and data that say this is the most effective solution to homelessness. When someone has a safe place to live- they will do better. When they get to choose and guide their path- they do better- there is no time limit and one gets autonomy /choices in services
The current position of the administration – they come from a values place that says you must have time-limited housing where people are working or in mandates services and if they don’t comply, law enforcement should take care of it.
Beacon and other agencies are very concerned about where the current administration is on providing funding for homelessness. Beacon is requesting each person to contact their state representative and senator to protest funding cuts and advocate for proper funding for homelessness. Beacon would like the government to automatically renew all of last year’s contracts for this coming year.
