A Prayer in the Night

Written by Pastor Jay Rudi

We navigate life as fragile human beings, experiencing vulnerability, and suffering. And even though we are people of faith, we still struggle with doubt about God’s presence at times.

Prayer is a faith practice that draws us out of ourselves and leads us into the long story of Jesus Christ’s work in and through his people over time.

This Lent, we will explore one of these timeless prayers from Compline, A service of Prayer at the End of the Day, which illuminates Jesus’ presence at work in the darkness and difficulties of our ordinary lives, in a world filled with uncertainty.

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work or watch or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, comfort the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake.

Amen.

Lent begins February 14th with Ash Wednesday and continues for six weeks. We worship every Wednesday in Lent at 6:30pm in the sanctuary. A soup and grilled cheese supper will begin at 5:45pm for the five weeks beginning February 21st.

We hope you will join us and be formed by this prayer, that it will be a source of connection with the God who keeps watch over us all.
