 Social Ministries

Oak Knoll is involved in a wide array of social ministry opportunities. Three of our most significant partnerships are with LPGM (Lutheran Partners in Global Ministry), ICA (Intercongregation Communities Association) and ZOOM House.

LPGM is our primary global mission partner. This organization was established to help connect people and congregations across the globe through relationship and faith:

Sponsor a child’s education -- For $20 per month you can make a real difference in the life of a child. You can give, but plan to receive as well! Receive a child’s love, prayers, and letters in response to your contribution.

Sponsor a school library. For $300 a year, a person, a family or a group of people can sponsor an entire library for a school in rural India.

Travel to India – The most powerful tool for inspiring stewardship for mission is to participate in a vision trip to see mission work outside of the U.S. Through LPGM Oak Knoll members can travel to India and see new examples of how God is at work in the world.

ZOOM House provides transitional housing and support for families moving out of homelessness in Minneapolis. Families served by this ministry receive intensive, personalized help with school placement, job placement and other services for a two-year period as the family moves from homelessness to stability.

Oak Knoll assists ZOOM House by providing furniture for families moving into this program, help in setting up apartments, participating in programs and mentoring for the families. Please contact the church office if you have furniture, or a desire to help with this ministry.

ICA (Intercongregation Communities Association) is a ministry that serves families in need in Minnetonka, Hopkins, Excelsior, Deephaven, Shorewood, Greenwood and Woodland. Services include food, financial assistance for shelter and transportation and more. Opportunities for Oak Knoll members:
---Donate Food. Bring non-perishable food to Oak Knoll the first Sunday of each month. Drop it off in the designated cart in the lobby.
---Donate Funds. Designate a financial donation in the offering plate at any time.
---Work. Volunteer your time (2-4 hour shifts) in ICA’s distribution center where you can accept, sort or distribute food or work in their office. Contact the church office if you are interested in more information.
