Oak Knoll Book Club Meeting and Book Selection Schedule 2011-2012
The Oak Knoll Book Club meets the fourth Monday of each month of the school year at 12:30 – 2:00 pm in the Oak Knoll church library, located at 600 County Rd. 73, Minnetonka, MN 55305.
Here is a short resume of the book we have chosen for the coming year, listing the title, author and the number of copies available from the Hennepin County Library System (HCLS)/
2011
SEPTEMBER 26: The Last Hunter, by Weill Weaver. Hunting frames Weaver’s childhood memories and sweeps us along on a family journey from an isolated N.D. farm in an examination of a family, life on the lad, and those things we hold dear enough to want to carry along one generation to another. 24 copies in HCLS. Also, John Meland, South Dakota Pioneer, by OK Book Club member, Marj Har. A 64 page history of her grandfather: a S.D. pioneer, farmer and legislator. Ask Marj to borrow a copy (952-544-6256)
OCTOBER 24: The Dressmaker of Khair Khana, by Gale Lemmon. A former daily news reporter is determined to restore Afghani women to visibility by describing how some women navigated the restrictions under the Taliban to support their families. 30 copies in HCLS.
NOVEMBER 28: The Immortal life of Henrietta Lack, by Rebecca Skloot. Examines schocking stories about African Americans used as medical guinea pigs right up through the 1960’s. 96 copies in HCLS.

JANUARY 23: Jerusalem: The biography, by Simon Monteflore. An epic history of Jerusalem about the Holy City. Only 7 copies in HCLS
FEBRUARY 27: Every Last One, by Anna Quindlen. Mary Beth Latham is a mother of three teenagers, and when one of her sons becomes depressed, Mary Beth focuses on him and is blindsided by a shocking act of violence. 87 copies in HCLS.
MARCH 26: Caleb’s Crossing, by Geraldine Brooks. What does Caleb cross? What are the effects of attempting to Christianize an already spiritual, established civilization? 55 books in HCLS.
APRIL 23: The Fear: Robert Mugabe and the Martyrdom of Zimbabwe,by Peter Godwin. A look inside Mugabe’s isolated Zimbabwe as Godwin and his sister return to their childhood home and tour this state-terrorized country. 8 copies in HCLS.
MAY 21: - - - - - - - - - - - - - We haven’t chosen a book for May so if a new book comes along that we may wish to red, we will have an opening for it.
